About Benjamin Schiller

Picture
I was a 13-year-old kid, running around South Florida to every 2016 Presidential Election event as a Scholastic Kid Reporter. Even before I started high school, I was interviewing politicians about issues that mattered, and expected to file a story by a midnight deadline. Now, I am 22-years-old, and a graduate from Syracuse University's Newhouse School of Communications, with a degree in Broadcast and Digital Journalism.

My time at Newhouse allowed me to continue building on the same passion I had as that 13-year-old kid in 2016. From spending five, even six days a week at the student television station and working hard at numerous internships, I am entering the workforce with a plethora of experience. I can perform on-air, shoot video, write scripts, produce live shows, edit content -- you name it. I view my skill set as versatile, and I will never refuse a challenge to add on more tools to my toolbox.

At CitrusTV, I was an Executive Producer for three years within the news department. Usually most students get an EP spot for two years maximum, but my ambitions and work ethic allowed me to lead shows from day one of my sophomore year. I was in charge of the station's political programming, and also produced local newscasts, too. I also produced the station's live annual election night show, where I brought home the New York State Broadcaster's Associations' "Best College Election Programming" award each time during those three years.

My outside-of-school work experiences include some prestigious journalism internships. During the Summer of 2022, I was a newsroom intern at CNN. During my time there, I was responsible for pitching national stories and newsgathering details by making phone calls, writing emails, conducting  research, and finding sources who would be willing to talk. I had ten bylines with numerous contribution credits. I worked as a production intern during the Summer of 2023 at MSNBC. During my time with "Alex Witt Reports," I used that Summer to practice my writing skills, and gain editorial judgment for national news coverage. I also have experience working as a multimedia journalist, when I covered the 2024 New Hampshire Presidential Primaries for Nexstar. During my week freelancing on the ground, I covered multiple campaign events daily, shot b-roll, interviewed voters and politicians, and edited a day-turn package and article for digital.

Besides following the news, I enjoy hobbies outside of the newsroom. I am a huge sports fan, and you could probably find me watching or attending Miami Marlins, Dolphins, and Heat games in my free time.

Thank you for your time!
